Apple verspricht: 100% erneuerbare Energien bei allen Zulieferern

Apple hat sich am Montagabend der Initiative RE100 angeschlossen und unterstreicht damit das selbstgesetzte Ziel, verstärkt darauf hin zu arbeiten, dass alle Konzernzulieferer ausschließlich auf erneuerbare Energien setzen.

Bereits jetzt werden 93% der global Produktionsstätten Apples – diese sind inzwischen in 23 unterschiedlichen Ländern verortet – von erneuerbaren Energien angetrieben. Die 100%-Marke soll in den kommenden Jahren erreicht werden.

Neben dem Beitritt zur RE100-Initiative hat Apple zudem über neue Investitionen in Solarstrom informiert: In Arizona hat Apple ein 50MW Solarkraftwerk bauen lassen, dass 151.000 MWh Strom pro Jahr generieren soll.

Die Motivation des Unternehmens ist dabei nicht nur altruistischer Natur, sondern auch ein Marketing-Instrument: „The company said it wants its customers to be able to use its products without contributing to climate change.“

Apple is already powering its operations in the US, China and 21 other countries with 100 percent renewable energy; and, in 2015, powered 93 percent of its operations around the world with renewable energy. […] Altogether, Apple suppliers‘ commitments to-date will represent over 1.5 billion kilowatt hours per year of clean energy used in the manufacturing of Apple products by the end of 2018, equal to the amount of electricity consumed by over 1 million Chinese homes.
